ClassiCon louisa hutton und matthias sauerbruch studierten an der architectural association london. 1995 bis 2007 hatte matthias sauerbruch lehrstühle an der technischen universität berlin und der akademie der bildenden künste stuttgart. die beiden lehren seit 2007 an der harvard graduate school of design. die architekten louisa hutton und matthias sauerbruch haben eine individuelle architektursprache entwickelt, die dem büro sauerbruch hutton seit seiner gründung 1989 internationalen ruf verliehen hat. ihr ganzheitlicher planungsansatz vom städtebau bis zum möbeldesign verbindet funktionalität mit hohem architektonischen anspruch, sinnlich- keit und ökologischer nachhaltigkeit. die projekte von sauerbruch hutton, darunter das umweltbundesamt in dessau (2005) und das museum brandhorst in münchen (2008) wurden mit zahlreichen preisen ausgezeich- net. ihr erstes hochhaus, die gsw hauptverwaltung in berlin (1999), ist seit 2009 teil der architektursammlung des moma in new york. louisa hutton and matthias sauerbruch studied at the architectural association of london. from 1995 to 2007 matthias sauerbruch held professorships at the technical university of berlin and the state academy of art and design, stuttgart. both have been teaching at the harvard graduate school of design since 2007. architects louisa hutton and matthias sauerbruch have developed a signature architectural language that has brought the sauerbruch hutton agency for architecture, urbanism and design international recognition since its founding in 1989. a holistic approach to planning, from urban development all the way to furniture design, merges functionality with exacting architectural demands, sensuality with environmental sustainability. sauerbruch hutton’s projects, among them the federal environmental agency in dessau (2005) and the brandhorst museum in munich (2008), have been awarded numerous prizes. their fi rst highrise, the gsw headquarters in berlin (1999), became part of the architecture collection of the moma in new york in 2009.

ClassiCon moderne kunst des 20. und 21. jahrhunderts verdient ein ebenso mo- dernes gebäude und die dazu passenden möbel. dieser spannenden aufgabe stellten sich die berliner architekten sauerbruch hutton, als sie den auftrag für das museum brandhorst in münchen bekamen. für das museum, das 2009 eröffnet wurde, wurden drei verschiedene sitzmöbel entworfen, die in der cafeteria, im foyer und in den bespre- chungs- und vortragsräumen ihren einsatz fanden. classicon entwi- ckelte die entwürfe in enger zusammenarbeit mit den architekten zur serienreife. neben der formalen und qualitativ anspruchsvollen zielsetzung wurde die starke beanspruchung im öffentlichen raum berücksichtigt und die belastbarkeit durch diverse testverfahren sichergestellt. zusammen entsteht ein ensemble, das sowohl in öf- fentlichen wie auch privaten bereichen eine formschöne einheit bildet. modern art of the 20th and 21st centuries deserves an appropriate setting, with a building and its furniture that is just as modern. berlin architects sauerbruch hutton were thus faced with an exciting chal- lenge when asked to design the museum brandhorst in munich. three different seating solutions were developed for the museum that opened in 2009 – for the cafeteria, the foyer, the conference and lecture rooms as well as the lounge. classicon developed the designs to the point of series production in close collaboration with the architects. along with demanding expectations in terms of form and quality, the typical wear and tear that the furniture would be subjected to in the public space had also to be taken into consideration. its dura- bility was ensured by means of various tests. together a harmonious ensemble is created for use either in the public or private realm.
