Explore new creative scenarios in an imaginary tour of the extraordi-
nary urban ecosystem – the Sassi di Matera. Here, the stratification
of eras displays the continuity of past and future interactions, of natural
elements and traces of culture that have accumulated over time, bare
essentials, destined to last, that blend with the new contemporary fabric.
Tacchini embraces this crossroads between past and present, molding
it into a product – the Matera sectional system by Maltese designer,
Gordon Guillaumier. Full-proportioned upholstered elements are
assembled like stones, placed one next to another, which can stand
alone or be mingled. Completing the arrangement are table top surfaces
in wood, marble, or upholstered in fabric and equipped with wireless
chargers at the places where the seats meet. The Matera family is
designed for the contract market, to build informal seating islands for
conversation, waiting, meetings and work.

Auf einer imaginären Reise durch neue kreative Szenarien betritt
man das außergewöhnliche urbane Ökosystem der Sassi von Matera:
Die Schichtung von Epochen, natürlichen Elementen und kulturellen
Spuren, die sich im Laufe der Zeit angesammelt haben, zeigt die Kontinui-
tät des Austauschs zwischen Vergangenheit und Zukunft, Gründungsele-
mente, die dazu bestimmt sind, zu überdauern, und sich mit neuen
zeitgenössischen Stoffen vermischen. Tacchini macht sich diese Über-
schneidung von Vergangenheit und Gegenwart zu eigen und übersetzt
sie in ein Produkt: das modulare System Matera des maltesischen
Designers Gordon Guillaumier. Ausgedehnte Polsterelemente werden wie
Steine aneinandergereiht, die einzeln stehen oder miteinander kombiniert
werden können. Ergänzt wird das Arrangement durch Tischplatten
aus Holz, Marmor oder mit Stoffbezug und kabellosen Ladegeräten an
den Stellen, an denen sich die Sitze treffen. Die Matera-Familie ist für den
Contract-Bereich konzipiert, um informelle Sitzinseln für Gespräche,
Wartezeiten, Besprechungen und Arbeit zu schaffen.

créatifs, on pénètre dans l’extraordinaire écosystème urbain que sont
les Sassi de Matera : la stratification des époques, des éléments naturels
et des traces de culture qui se sont accumulés au fil du temps montre
la continuité de l’échange entre passé et futur, d’éléments fondateurs
destinés à durer qui se mêlent à de nouveaux tissus contemporains.
Tacchini fait sienne cette intersection entre passé et présent, en
la traduisant par un produit, le système modulable Matera qui porte la
signature du designer maltais Gordon Guillaumier et se compose
d’éléments rembourrés aux volumes pleins, assemblables comme des
pierres qui se juxtaposent, pouvant être utilisés individuellement ou
mélangés les uns aux autres. Des tablettes en bois, en marbre ou
recouvertes de tissu, équipées de chargeurs sans fil, viennent compléter
la composition au point de rencontre des sièges. La famille Matera
est conçue pour les espaces professionnels en vue de créer des sièges
informels qui se font ilots de conversation, d’attente, de rencontre
et de travail.
Gordon Guillaumier
Gordon Guillaumier was born in 1966, and was educated
firstly in Malta, then in Switzerland, England and Italy.
He graduated from IED in Milan (1988-91), before spe-
cializing in design at the Domus Academy, Milan (1992).
In 1993 he began working with Baleri Associati, as well
as collaborating with architect Rodolfo Dordoni. In 2002
he set up his own design studio in Milan, principally
working on product design, but also for design consul-
tancy projects. In 2006 he lectured in industrial design
at Milan’s Politecnico university.
