We are finally ready to reveal a collaboration with

renowned designer Patricia Urquiola on a very special

project – making a collection in bio-degradable

material that can eventually return to nature.

Extensive testing and development have enabled us

to use bioplastics with our MatekTM technology. What

sets bioplastic apart from conventional plastic is

that it is made using renewable resources instead of

fossil fuels. The development of the Alder Collection

is characterised by a shared exchange of experiences

between Mater and Patricia Urquiola - and, above all,

a collective commitment to sustainable design.

As for the material, the inspiration for the Alder

collection comes from nature. The shapes are inspired

by the sinuous curves of trees and the delicate

forms of leaves. Urquiola wanted to create a sense

of connection with the natural world, apparent in

both material and shape – wishing to bring some of

nature’s beauty into our living spaces. The collection

consists of two lounge tables in oval and square in

two colours, and a side table and a stool available

in four colours. All in earthy hues to underline the

connection with nature.
