Nordic folk & Windsor
There is one designer whose work is more
well-known than his name, Ejvind A. Johansson.
His ambition was to create modest, well-made,
everyday furniture appreciated for its purity in
form and function. An approach instantly
apparent in the J64 Chair designed in 1957,
which references Nordic folk and traditional
Windsor furniture.
The signature spoke-back and gentle, sloping
armrests make this a timeless classic. At the
same time, the curve of the seat and back add
ergonomic comfort, as well as a strong graphic
expression. The J64 is ideal as a dining chair
or as a lightweight easy chair, accompanied
by a cushion or blanket.
The J63 Stool echoes a similar bare simplicity,
with a focus on the functional and the practical.
Clearly evident the J63’s curved seat and
simple, supportive frame. It’s the kind of design
you would welcome as an occasional seat for
guests, a small stool in a kitchen, by a bedside
or as a decorative detail in a living room.
