Luca Meda

Banco, created by Luca Meda in 1994,

focuses on the main cooking and wash-

ing functions within a freestanding

patented structure. Banco is a one-of-a-

kind kitchen. Its essential design breaks

all the construction and design conven-

tions that define the concept of a kitchen.

The technical solutions adopted, dating

back over thirty years, have been care-

fully studied in the R&D department,

which has developed a simple and

elegant solution that conceals mecha-

nisms and technicalities that still make

it remarkably innovative. The slimline

worktop, supported by a solid extru-

sion of aluminium, defines the horizons

of the volumes. The structure remains

elevated and suspended and can be

complemented with base units. Banco

redefines material contrasts and opts

for black and white. The island provides

support for the storage units below,

while the slim worktop rests on the

aluminium frame, concealing its solid

core. “Banco means counter. The idea

of a counter is like that of a rover, a man

who wanders in all directions, slowly

building an appetite. That's why the coun-

ter ended up in the kitchen. And in a flash,

Banco, creata da Luca Meda nel 1994, con-

centra le principali funzioni di cottura e la-

vaggio all'interno di una struttura freestan-

ding brevettata. Banco è una cucina unica

nel suo genere. Il suo design essenziale

rompe tutte le convenzioni costruttive e

progettuali che definiscono il concetto

di cucina. Le soluzioni tecniche adottate,

risalenti a oltre trent'anni fa, sono state

attentamente studiate nel reparto R&D,

che ha sviluppato una soluzione semplice

ed elegante che nasconde meccanismi

e tecnicismi che la rendono ancora oggi

notevolmente innovativa. Il piano di lavoro

sottile, sostenuto da una solida estrusio-

ne di alluminio, definisce gli orizzonti dei

volumi. La struttura rimane sopraelevata

e sospesa e può essere completata con

basi. Banco ridefinisce i contrasti materici

e opta per il bianco e nero. L'isola sostiene

i contenitori sottostanti, mentre il sottile

piano di lavoro si appoggia al telaio in allu-

minio, nascondendone l'anima solida. “L’i-
