11 - WARRANTY
All new radiators and towel warmers made by CALEIDO since 01/04/2010 are
guaranteed for 5 years against manufacturing defects (leaks and paintwork),
provided that the system is pre-washed with suitable chemical products and
treated with a corrosion inhibitor, and for 2 years for the electrical parts, as
from the date of despatch, provided that the regulations and the installation and
maintenance instructions have been followed carefully (DPR 59/09).
The warranty in all cases is restricted to the free of charge replacement or repair of the
failed product only. Our liability will under no circumstances extend beyond the repair
or replacement of the product supplied by us. Claims for either labour in replacement or
damage to property are not admissible.
Our warranties do not cover problems arising as the result of incorrect installation,
excessive stress, a lack of care, mishandling and modifications. Repairs performed by third
parties, without our written permission, will release CALEIDO of all liability in connection
with the warranty obligations and the reimbursement of assembly and disassembly costs
or expenses due to other failures.
If the radiator has been installed, the warranty only covers damage due to rust or leaks.
Radiators which are deemed faulty during the warranty period as a clear result of material
and/or manufacturing defects will be replaced free of charge, provided that the defects
found are reported to CALEIDO immediately in writing to allow the cause to be determined.
Faulty radiators will become the property of CALEIDO. Any returns must be authorised in
writing and must be despatched in the original packaging, via a courier chosen by CALEIDO.
Damage to the products caused by insufficient or inappropriate packaging will be charged
to the customer.
INSTALLATION
The warranty covering our radiators only applies if they are installed by a qualified fitter and in a
workmanlike manner, in accordance with Italian Ministerial Decree no. 37/08 (or similar laws in force
in other countries).
Below are some recommendations for correct installation to ensure the continuing validity of the
warranty.
- Before installing the new radiator, make sure the pipes in the central heating system are clean. In a
new system, it is important to eliminate all residue from the manufacturing and installation process;
in an existing system, it is necessary to flush out all the pipes carefully to remove any sludge or other
deposits. In all cases, the presence of impurities such as metal residue, calamine, grease, gas and scale
could cause the radiator to malfunction or shorten its life. Please also note that impurities can obstruct
the flow of water through the valves and outlets, thereby reducing heat output. Reference is made to
Italian Presidential Decree no. 59/09 (or similar laws in force in other countries), which establishes
rules for correct water treatment according to the capacity of the system and the hardness of the water.
If a corrosion inhibitor is used, it must be compatible with all the materials in the radiator. CALEIDO
recommends FERNOX products (www.fernox.com).
- Fill the central heating system with water having a pH value ranging from 6.5 to 8 to reduce corrosion,
which would affect the radiator’s performance and could cause rusting and leaks.
- Check the operating pressure is in the range 1-2 bar. If this range is exceeded, the boiler may switch
off automatically.
- Air bubbles form naturally inside a heating system, so it may be necessary to remove the excess air
via the bleeder valve. The use of dirt separators and deaerators may help prevent the formation of air
bubbles and residue in the pipes, and eliminate the need for this procedure.
- In existing systems it is advisable to balance the radiators by means of valves or by closing the outlet
slightly so that the hot water can flow through all the radiators at a constant temperature,
from the one closest to the boiler to the one farthest from it.
- Hemp must never be used, otherwise the warranty will automatically be invalidated. The
use of hemp causes the following problems: 1) it covers the threads and when the fitter
screws on the valve and outlet the thread is likely to crack, creating tiny leaks that will
gradually develop into major leaks; 2) it absorbs moisture from inside the radiator and
transmits it straight to the outside, creating corrosion. CALEIDO authorises the use of Teflon
only.
- When using anti-freeze, it must be compatible with all the materials of which the radiator is made.
Anti-freeze must never be used concentrated; it must be adequately diluted first.
- A central heating system, being a closed loop, must not be emptied and filled periodically as this would
allow new air to get in, which would rust the metal parts. We recommend the use of specific inhibitors
to prevent the formation of mould and algae.
- Radiators installed under a shelf, in an alcove or behind a surround will have a more or less reduced
heat output. We recommend contacting a heating engineer who can calculate the correct size of the
radiators required and make sure the installation parameters are complied with: at least 110 mm from
the floor and 150 mm from a shelf.
- It is also advisable to call in a heating engineer to draw up a proper plan for correct dimensioning of
the entire heating circuit.
MAINTENANCE
We would also like to provide instructions for correct maintenance to ensure the continuing validity of
the warranty.
- Before installation: Radiators must be stored in a place providing adequate protection against
inclement weather conditions.
- Radiators must never be installed inside showers, near swimming pools or in any other moist
environments.
- They must be cleaned periodically with a soft damp cloth. Do not use aggressive or abrasive products,
which would ruin the surface.
- Radiators must only be used for heating rooms and warming towels, never for drying wet washing.
- Radiators must be vented periodically via the bleeder valve to eliminate the air that has accumulated
inside. This must be done before turning on the central heating. Another reason for regular venting is to
reduce the formation of rust inside the radiators, which would shorten their life.
TROUBLE-SHOOTING
During normal use, certain situations may occur that are not attributable to manufacturing defects.
These are listed below, with their causes and solutions.
The room is cold even when the radiator is hot. The system or radiator may not be correctly sized, or
the calculation of heat output was based on wrong information. If this happens, it is advisable to have
a heating engineer check the entire system (building insulation, indoor and outdoor temperature, boiler
features, etc.).
The radiator does not heat up, even if installed by a qualified fitter and in a workmanlike manner. There
are numerous reasons for this that are not attributable to the radiator:
- insufficient thermal capacity or low supply water temperature;
- wrong sizing of the heating system;
- wrong sizing of the circulating pump, which could cause a radiator malfunction in some areas;
- too much air inside, to be released by the bleeder valve;
- thermostat exposed to a source of heat, making it reach the set ambient temperature without activating
all the radiators;
- presence of impurities in the system, which deposit on the valve body and reduce the flow of hot water
into the radiator.
The radiator heats only partially, in which case it may be over-dimensioned, so the temperature setting is
reached before the radiator has heated to an even temperature over the entire surface.
The radiator is noisy due to problems not attributable to the radiator itself, such as high system pressure,
inversion of the valve and outlet, pipes in contact with floors and walls, or no sound insulation on the
headers.
The resistance in electric radiators heats the water inside, which increases in volume, dilating the pipes,
which expand and make a slight noise.
